Understanding Email Search Credits, Control Email Auto-searching and Finding Personal or Work Emails Only

This article explains how email and phone search credits work, how to control auto email searching and find work or personal emails only.

Updated over a year ago

If you are on our data package, you will have email or phone credits, keep reading to see how they work and how to use our extension to source contacts.

How Email and Phone Search Credits work

Email search credits are necessary to search for a person's email address for the first time. We will only charge one email credit per search, even if more than one email is found. Once you have found the email address once, then you will not use another credit if you search for it again in the future, as it belongs to you. Phone credits work in exactly the same way.

For clarity, email sending and receiving is unlimited, it is only the finding of an email for the first time that uses an email search credit.

Your credits can be found on your profile page under your name and email. Please navigate to your profile from the SourceWhale dashboard as shown below.

Please note: If you do not add the contact within 7 days of your search, you will be charged an additional credit the next time you search for the contact’s information.

Turn on Auto-Searching Emails

Auto-Search Emails: This feature will allow you to find emails for profiles, without having to click the "Email" button on the extension. Please note this will use your credits if the extension is open in the background.

From your Chrome browser, you will need to right-click on the SourceWhale icon in the top right of your screen and then select "Auto Search Emails".

Search for work or personal email addresses only

From your Chrome browser, you will need to right-click on the SourceWhale icon in the top right of your screen and then select or deselect "Find Work Emails Only" or "Find Personal Emails".

No tick on both options means the extension will search for both types of email addresses.

Note: Credits are spread across a team and NOT individual users.
