Introduction to US Dialer Deliverability (STIR/SHAKEN)

SourceWhale improves your Dialer deliverability by helping you register your team's US dialer numbers for STIR/SHAKEN. STIR/SHAKEN stands for "Secure Telephone Identity Revisited" (STIR) and "Signature-based Handling of Asserted Information Using toKENs" (SHAKEN). This technology service authenticates callers to ensure they are authorized to use the number they are calling from. With the FCC mandating the implementation of STIR/SHAKEN by June 30, 2021, it's crucial for businesses to comply to ensure their calls are recognized as legitimate, enhancing call trustworthiness and reducing the impact of illegal robocalls.

Why STIR/SHAKEN?

The primary goal of STIR/SHAKEN is to combat illegal caller ID spoofing, which is often used by scammers to trick individuals into answering their phones. By authenticating caller IDs, STIR/SHAKEN helps reduce scam calls, making it easier for consumers and law enforcement to identify the source of illegal robocalls.

STIR/SHAKEN Verification Levels

Upon registering for STIR/SHAKEN, your business will receive one of three levels of attestation:

  • Full Attestation (A): The highest level of verification, indicating the caller's identity and their right to use the phone number are known.

  • Partial Attestation (B): The caller's identity is known, but it's unclear if they have the right to use the phone number.

  • Gateway Attestation (C): Neither the caller's identity nor their right to use the phone number is known, but the call is sourced from a trusted carrier gateway.

Warning: if you have verified a phone number, your outbound calls will result in B-level attestation. This means calls are more likely to be blocked and fail. All SourceWhale assigned numbers will receive A-level attestation after STIR/SHAKEN compliance has been approved.
