As well as adding your contacts to a Project, you can assign Tags to them as well. Tags are a way to add certain traits or extra identifiers to your contacts - for example, if you add a contact to your "Developer" Project, you can add Tags such as "Java" or Python" to help further identify and label them.

Managing and Creating Tags

You can manage and create Tags within the Contacts page in SourceWhale. Click on the filter icon on the top left.

This will open a pop-up where you can also create new Tags.

Note - if you would like to restrict who on your team can create new tags, get in touch with our support team.

Adding Tags

You can add Tags to contacts in multiple ways. Firstly you can do so on the Contacts page in SourceWhale, by using the tickbox to select the contacts you want to tag, choosing Actions, and selecting Assign Tags:

You can also add Tags to contacts via the chrome extension. You can find the Tags drop-down menu in the chrome extension by using the grey arrow next to the campaign drop-down menu.

You can also add tags to contacts via the spreadsheet upload function. When uploaded You can find the Tags sections by using the grey drop-down arrow next to the campaign selector.

Filtering by Tags

Whilst on the SourceWhale web app, you will be able to filter your contacts by tags, to do this: go to the contacts table, click on the 'Tag filter' and select the tag or tags you want to filter by.

You also have the ability to do a more advanced search by using our Boolean search option, in order to do so just follow the same steps as above (click on the "Tag Filter option" and select the tag or tags you want to filter by) and select the "&" or "OR" option depending on the type of filtering you want to do.

An example of an 'AND' search would be: If you want to search for developers with the tag 'Java' and 'Python', then select the '&' option and select 'Java' and 'Python' in the Tags drop down list.

An example of an 'OR' search would be: If you want to search for developers with the tag 'Java' or 'Python', then select the 'OR' option and select 'Java' and 'Python' in the Tags drop down list.
