Overview
Off limits helps you prevent unwanted outreach to companies and individual contacts in SourceWhale.
Admins can restrict a company. Every contact linked to that company with the Candidate relationship becomes Off limits. You can also restrict one contact from their profile.
Off limits blocks Campaign enrolment and one-off email, SMS, and WhatsApp messages. Client contacts remain contactable when only their company is restricted.
How it works
Restricting a company
Only admins can change a company restriction.
Open Companies from the sidebar and select a company.
Open Restrictions in the company panel.
Select Off limits.
Select a future Expiry date. An expiry date is required.
Enter Details if you want to record a reason.
Select Save.
Review the confirmation, then select Mark off limits.
The Off limits tag applies to all Candidate contacts at the company. Any Campaigns they are currently in will be stopped.
Removing a company restriction
Open the company's Restrictions field.
Select No restrictions.
Select Save.
Review the confirmation, then select Remove restriction.
Removing the company restriction makes its Candidate contacts contactable again. Any restriction added directly to an individual contact remains.
Restricting an individual contact
You can apply Off limits to one contact without restricting the contact's company.
Open the contact's profile.
Open Candidate Information.
Open the Restrictions field.
Select Off limits.
Select a future Expiry date. An expiry date is required.
Enter Details if you want to record a reason.
Select Save
An individual contact restriction takes precedence over the company restriction. It remains in place when the company restriction is removed.
Choosing an individual restriction
Follow company restriction
Select Follow company restriction to use the company's current restriction for the contact. If the company is Off limits, the contact remains restricted.
No restrictions
When the company is Off limits, select No restrictions to create an exception for one contact. The contact becomes contactable, but the company remains Off limits.
SourceWhale asks you to confirm this exception before saving it.
Off limits
Select Off limits to restrict the contact directly. Add an expiry date and optional details.
Campaigns and one-off messages
Campaigns: An Off limits contact shows Cannot add during campaign review. Hover over the status to see the expiry date and reason. Other contacts can continue.
Existing Campaigns: Marking a company or contact Off limits stops any Campaigns they are currently in.
One-off messages: Off limits blocks one-off email, SMS, and WhatsApp messages.
Chrome extension
The Chrome extension displays an Off limits badge for a restricted contact. The contact cannot be added to a Campaign from the extension.
FAQs
Who can change a company restriction?
Only admins can change a company restriction. Users can manage individual contact restrictions from the contact profile.
Does a company restriction affect client contacts?
No. A company restriction applies to contacts with the Candidate relationship. Client contacts at the same company remain contactable unless they are restricted individually.
Can I contact one person at an Off limits company?
Yes. Open the contact's Restrictions field and select No restrictions. This creates an exception for that contact only.
What happens when an expiry date passes?
The expired restriction no longer applies. A restriction added directly to the contact remains if it has its own active expiry date.
Is Off limits the same as Unsubscribes?
No. Off limits blocks outreach because a company or contact is restricted. Unsubscribes record recipient opt-outs and are managed separately. See Actioning Unsubscribe Requests.
